A CEVICHERIA - LISBON
WHERE PERU MEETS PORTUGAL..
‘Cevicheria was born from the desire to present the traditional Peruvian dish – Ceviche – with a touch of our Portuguese taste. Ingredients as familiar as cod are called to the table, among many dishes inspired by new ways of cooking and tasting fish. In addition to the South American tradition of Ceviche and Pisco Sour, typical national, Asian and tropical flavors are added.’
If you visit the fabulous city of Lisbon, which you may well do as it is very popular and rightly so, you simply must visit A CEVICHERIA (unless you don’t like fish that is!)
It is gloriously trendy, although I did not find it intimidatingly so. You are immediately surrounded by fish fish and more fish and it is prepared before you. They proudly present their daily fresh deliveries, fresh fish laid out on mounds of crushed ice, just like at the markets.
The restaurant is bright and clean. It was, when we were there, buzzing with conversation and glasses clicking. As the introduction on the website announces:
‘No, it's not the girl who is at the window of A Cevicheria, but anyone who has visited the space is well aware of the moment of sharing the traditional Peruvian cocktail. What better way to start a meal than with a toast? Or several! Pisco Sour sets the tone for a short trip to Peru, even before trying the tasting menu.’
With Pisco sour in hand, you melt into the comfort of a deliciously fresh meal, hopefully accompanied by a good friend or partner and you are off to the perfect start.
The fish was amazing, we ordered a number of plates. We enjoyed the octopus the most, bathing in a sea of delicate tomato bouillabaisse soup, the meaty octopus was not overwhelmed by any of the subtle accompanying flavours. Particularly with fresh seafood, you really don’t want to over power the fabulous flavours of the sea and the meat itself.
We could have sat here and sipped the afternoon away but we had a schedule to keep, we planned a more leisurely stop on our next visit but unfortauntley when we next visited I was pregnant and raw fish and endless cocktails was no longer an option!
We have it marked for another trip, with friends, no kids and a long free afternoon.
