A perfect location, at just 10 minutes from the A40 motorway, less than an hour from Geneva and less than two hours from Lyon.

Nestled in the heart of the French Alps, close to Geneva and Chamonix Mont-Blanc, perched above the resort of Les Carroz d'Arâches near Flaine, they offer you the comfort and charm of an authentic chalet hotel, with attention given to every detail.

We first came across this stunning hotel & restaurant nearly 20 years ago when we first skied down into Les Carroz and passed infront of it.You might be drawn in by the impressive craftsmanship and design of the chalet, combining old wood charm with splashes of impressive glass expanses. Or maybe you will take a closer look and see that the linens are the finest linens, glasses the chicest available and crockery and silverware perfectly paired with the fine foods and wines that are being served.

We were excited to try it and when we did we soon became loyal fans. The experience was authentically French, the food was simple, impressive and always with a splash of glamour and flair.

The wine list is very impressive, they cater for the very wealthy also. However you are welcome in with ski boots and sweaty off the slopes so it is not somewhere to avoid if you feel a little underdressed. Having said that, there is an atmosphere of expecting ‘appropriate’ behaviour.

This place became my place to go as a treat. For my husband to take me for a birthday celebration (if work was going especially well!) or for just a glass of champagne if a full dinner was not on the cards.

Their lunch time menu is very accessible and we have eaten here at lunch time on occasion, spending no more than what you would spend in any Haute-Savoie bistro.

I realise looking back, that we have celebrated a lot here. From Birthdays to Anniversaries and Christenings to Family reunions. Surely the sign of a good find is that you go back time and time again without even realising it!

My absolute favourite dish year after year is:

Matafan Aux Pommes Flambé Au Calvados. Crêpe soufflée caramélisée aux pommes, glace vanille.

A deliciously simple dish but with a snazzy twist. I have had it time and time again and it never disappoints. I also enjoy the ‘cocktail maison’ as an aperitif before the meal.
