Frankel’s DELICATESSEN - BROOKLYN
FRANKEL’S DELICATESSEN
Contemporary Jewish deli specializing in bagels with smoked fish, plus classic sandwiches & brisket.
I found out about this Deli as I was scouring the internet for best bagels in and around Manhattan as of course I was aware of NYC reputation with bagels and I love them.
This was a leader of the pack when it came to bagels and as we were staying in Brooklyn, we thought that we would seek it out. We were naive then as to the size of Brooklyn and we set off from Williamsburg to Greenpoint as if it were a short stroll…it wasn’t.
However the walk was nice and it’s always s good way to get to know a new area.
By the time that we got there, we were starving and of course we over ordered, but that turned out not to be a bad thing!
The deli was delightful. Very neighbourhood feel, friendly, clean and smelt amazing. You got he distinct feel that people came in time after time for their ‘usual’ as a number of people popped in whilst we waited, to collect their pre ordered sandwiches and bagels.
We both opted for slow cooked brisket bagel with a side of pickle. The bagel was HUGE, we were thrilled. The pickle similarly was the largest pickle that I had ever seen. The brisket was melt in the mouth and I must admit to only handling half of the bagel and packing it away for that oh so delicious cold/marinated later in the day treat. Lukasz devoured his and kept pestering me for the rest of mine..I did not succumb!
One of my favourite things in the deli was the lovingly names ‘Orthodox Chews’, bagged candy next to the till. Love it!
Well, we were certainly very pleased to have bothered to make the journey to the Deli, across town, so much so that the next day Lukasz popped out for a “run” and on his return I found with him a Frankel’s bag, with a fresh brisket and pickle bagel.
