When I started to plan my mum’s 70th Birthday treat in Gararock Hotel near Salcombe, I knew that one of the meals was going to need to be some really fresh and really great seafood. There is nothing that my parents love more than good/fresh seafood, when by the sea.
It didn’t take me long to find out that Crab Shed in Salmcobe was a favourite place for this. so I booked (good idea as it’s popular) and looked forward to trying it out.
The day arrived and we had the most insane weather for our visit. It was the bluest of skies and the hottest of September bank holidays in 2023.
We requested indoor seating (open sliding doors) as the sun was just too strong and we were given a lovely table, still looking out over the estuary.
We ordered local Salcombe gin G&T’s and chilled Chablis.
The loveliest of servers created us and ran us through the menu, introducing the locality of every fish and when it was caught. There was an appropriately limited menu and all the fish was fresh fresh fresh.
Between us all, we covered most of the bases. Mussels, scallops, Seabass & Battered cod. The fish was perfect, the setting was perfect and the company was perfect. We couldn’t have asked for more, I couldn’t recommend it more highly.
